Veda’s is a cult Indian fine dining restaurant in CP. For me it has special memories as I went on my first official date with hubby, then fiancee, to Veda.
True to it’s essence Veda has not changed at all. This month they hit a 10 year benchmark which is a rare occasion in restaurants and a commendable task. The food, the ambience, the overall feel remain the same but they decided to add a little contemporary feel to some dishes. While it was a hit in some dishes and a miss in some.
Ambience: Welcome to the world old charm with the majestic mirrored roofs, chandeliers and soft red lights which bathe the whole restaurant in a romantic glow.
Drinks: I had an apple cinnamon cocktail which was lovely. The cinnamon was subtle enough to be enjoyed and not over power the whole drink.
Experience: The food is still the king at Vedas. The flavours remain lip smackingly perfect. The best part is that the food is not oily or loaded with spices.
In the starters we were had a Pudine mutter ki galouti with Philadelphia cream cheese. The galouti was warm, delicately spiced and beautifully merged with the tart creaminess of the cream cheese.
The asparagus shorba had a slight lentil base and was flavoured with cardamom which made it taste divine.
The starters had some hits and misses. The blooming onion was a miss for me. It needed to be refined in terms of taste.
The raan was amazingly well cooked. The nitrogen Palak chat was the best I have had. The Palak was crisp and beautifully made. The frozen curd which accompanied the chat gave it a different taste. The kasturi kebab is soft succulent and I would definitely go back for this delicious kebab. The murg malai tikka fondue is a different style of serving malai tikka. It retains the essence of malai tikka with a better presentation.
The crispy okra is as the name suggests crispy with a hint of sesame oil and some amchur that adds to the kick.
The main course was a sure shot hit and I loved the biryani with its aromatic spices and subtle flavours. The dal Veda is dal makhni cooked in a special style and its rich but not over the top creamy and is a winner on the menu.
Nihari with its fragrant curry was tasty and yummy. It’s a must try for mutton lovers. The butter chicken is good. Chicken Shahi korma is great.
Must try: Kasturi kebabs, nihari, dal Veda and biryani. I think Veda is back with a bang and the food speaks for it self. Go and treat yourself to some desi yumminess.
Meal for two: A meal for two would cost you approx INR 3000 / couple.
Ratings: 4/5 for its good food and quick service.
