Though it is a simple procedure and its recovery period is short, women may take some time to finally go through with their decision as many others find this procedure painful.
Doctors describe this mild discomfort as IUD cramps and these are similar to the ones experienced during regular periods. Below are some ways by which you can deal with IUD cramps and find some relief.
Use heating pad
If you weren’t able to take any pain meds prior to the procedure and the cramps have started to kick in then you can easily reach for a heating pad. It may provide instant relief. A hot water bottle will have the same effect.
Grab some fruits
Fruits like banana and pineapples are known to be effective in easing up your cramps. Banana contains vitamin B6 which is actually the ingredient that relieves cramps. Ginger also has the same effect.
Move a little
While it may not be possible for women experiencing excruciating pain to move from their spot, the ones experiencing mild cramps may be relieved after performing light exercises. Stretch your muscles or go for a short walk to feel better.
Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
If you still can’t see any difference then your doctor may advise you to take NSAIDs like ibuprofen.
