PM of Pakistan Imran Khan draws flak for his statement blaming women’s attire for rapes.
Many politicians have made controversial statements in the past and Imran Khan is in news for a similar reason. Recently, the PM of Pakistan said in an interview that women’s clothes will impact men and it is just common sense.
Imran Khan was criticised heavily for his statement and people shared their disappointment online. The victim-blaming mentality can be fatal and was not received well by the public. Here is a clip from the interview in which the statement was made.
Disappointing and frankly sickening to see PM Imran Khan repeat his victim blaming regarding reasons for sexual violence in Pakistan
Men are not “robots”, he says. If they see women in skimpy clothes, they will get “tempted” and some will resort to rape
Shameful!

Dr Arslan Khalid defended him in a tweet and said the words were taken out of context.
Again selective and out of context tweeting of what he actually said by subtracting the part where he talked about what kind of society we live in and abt the sexual frustration in the society. https://t.co/zuFw0mZ3WB

But people were already infuriated by these comments.
Actually saying “seeing skimpy clothes=rape temptation” makes men sound a lot like (rapist) robots.

If men can’t control how they react to a woman’s flesh then why are they heads of states ? They can’t surely control a country

The leaderships are so misogynistic, what kind of justice and equity can be expected from their governments. Their bias is reflected in institutions as well which deny womxn the access to justice. No country for us. https://t.co/nWbK6DGsLW

The PM repeating his victim-blaming narrative, which paints Pakistani men as uncontrollable beasts for an international audience & yet people like myself are accused of hating men & giving the country a bad name. pic.twitter.com/rqcN4P9NtH

Also, did Imran Khan kind of admit that Pakistani society nurtures so many potential rapists that we need to keep our women hidden at all times LOL
