Coldplay India Tour: Fans disappointed after not getting tickets

Fans disappointed as they fail to book tickets for Coldplay India tour 2025:

The overwhelming craze for Coldplay in India was clear as lakhs of fans waited in virtual queues for hours, hoping to secure tickets for the band’s Mumbai concerts. The Grammy-winning rock band is scheduled to perform three shows in Mumbai in January 2025 as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. Due to the incredible demand, Coldplay added a third show on January 21, in addition to the previously announced concerts on January 18 and 19.

Even with the addition of a third show, thousands of Coldplay fans were left disappointed after failing to secure tickets. While Coldplay tickets are officially sold out on BookMyShow, the authorized platform for ticket sales, resale platforms have begun listing them at significantly inflated prices.

Resale sites like Viagogo are offering Coldplay tickets for up to ₹3 lakh, despite warnings from BookMyShow against purchasing tickets from unauthorised platforms.

A quick search for Coldplay tickets led HT.com to Viagogo, an online marketplace where tickets for the January 18 show are priced between ₹38,000 and ₹3 lakh.

The warning that tickets purchased from unauthorized platforms would be invalid did little to appease disappointed Coldplay fans who missed out on securing seats. Many fans even accused BookMyShow of enabling a system that benefits illegal scalpers.

Several fans criticized BookMyShow for not tying tickets to booking IDs, allowing anyone to buy tickets and resell them later at exorbitant markups.

Others alleged that BookMyShow had “hoarded” tickets for high-net-worth individuals, influencers, and its own employees, creating an artificial scarcity.

One frustrated fan on X wrote, “The official partner (BMS) probably reserved countless tickets for their employees, random Instagram influencers, politicians, and celebrities. As soon as the tickets went live, they appeared on resale platforms at 20-30x the price – this wouldn’t have happened without BMS being involved.”

Another frustrated fan took to social media, asking, “How does @viagogo get Coldplay tickets at the same time as @bookmyshow, but at black market prices several times higher? Clearly there’s a nexus, and BMS is selling them to Viagogo. This is screaming scam!”

Coldplay fans who missed out on tickets for any of the band’s three Mumbai concerts also criticized BookMyShow for creating a virtual queue based on session ID rather than customer ID, which many believe contributed to the unfair ticketing process.
