The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic figures, Manoj Kumar, who passed away at the age of 87 on Friday. Known for his patriotic roles and significant contribution to Indian cinema both as an actor and director, Manoj Kumar left behind a legacy that has deeply touched generations of audiences and artists alike.

In memory of the late legend, a solemn prayer meet was held in Mumbai on Sunday. The gathering became a moment of quiet reflection and heartfelt tribute as several prominent members of the film fraternity came together to honor the man who once gave the nation cinematic masterpieces like Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and Kranti.

The prayer meet witnessed the presence of several Bollywood stars who shared a close bond with the veteran actor or were profoundly influenced by his work. Among those in attendance were Aamir Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Farhan Akhtar. Each of them paid their respects with folded hands and moist eyes, highlighting the immense respect Manoj Kumar commanded across generations.

Jaya Bachchan attended the prayer meet dressed in a simple white churidaar set. She greeted Manoj Kumar’s family and relatives with folded hands as she made her way inside. Notably, she was seen without Amitabh Bachchan at the event. However, Amitabh had paid his respects at the veteran actor’s funeral on Saturday, where he was also seen meeting writer Salim Khan.

The legendary actor was laid to rest with full state honours, including a ceremonial three-gun salute, on Saturday. Fondly known as ‘Bharat Kumar’ by his fans, Manoj earned this title through his iconic roles in a series of patriotic films such as Shaheed, Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, and Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan, among others. He is survived by his wife Shashi and their two sons.
