Hair colouring is a refreshing way to add some shine and try a different look. Most young Indian girls love to colour their tresses for a stylish new look! But with this new look comes in the extra hair care. After colouring you need to add something extra to maintain the colour for a longer time. Here’s how you can do to keep your coloured hair stay healthy and vibrant.
The right shampoo: Coloured hair needs special treatment. So always pick a shampoo designed for coloured hair. These special shampoos are gentler on the dye and don’t make the hair dry.
TIP: Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of the shampoo.
Avoid further chemical treatments: Chemicals are bad for hair. So don’t worsen your hair by undergoing another chemical treatment after colouring. Besides chemical treatments refrain from using heating products like dryers, curling tongs, straighteners etc. They make hair porous and doesn’t let the colour last.
Proper conditioning: Colour dries out the hair, so deep conditioning treatment is a must. Apply a hair mask, once a week to avoid hair fall. Use a leave-in conditioner for smooth and manageable hair.
Balanced diet: Your hair reflects your diet. A balanced diet is good for both the hair and the body. Eating right makes the hair shiny include lots of veggies, nuts, milk and whole gains.
Avoid chlorine: Chlorine spoils the coloured hair. Avoid swimming for sometime after colouring your hair. Always wear a swimming cap to protect the hair. Wash hair immediately after a swim to remove chlorine from hair. In case, there is hard or chemical water, wash your hair with filtered water.
Hair spa: A hair spa consists of deep conditioning treatments which improves the texture of your hair. To eliminate dry and dull hair, a regular hair spa as suggested by your hair stylist is important.
At home, a hot oil massage can be good substitute for hair spa. Mix olive oil with vitamin-E. Gently massage your hair in circular motion. Wear a damp hot towel over it for fifteen minutes and shampoo.
TIP: Get a hair spa every alternate month for limp hair and monthly for unruly, dry ones.
Sun protection: Just like our skin hair also needs sun protection. Use a protective cream or cover your hair with a scarf or hat in direct sunlight to stop colour fading.
Regular trim: Colouring make the ends very dry and fragile. This often leads to split ends, so for healthy and manageable hair, get a regular trim after every five weeks.
