Diljit Dosanjh becomes touched as Imtiaz Ali praises him during the ‘Chamkila’ event:
Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra attended the trailer launch event for their upcoming film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila.’ Renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and music maestro AR Rahman were also in attendance. Imtiaz’s praise for Diljit deeply touched the singer during the event. Dosanjh, portraying the legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, often hailed as the ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab’, received praise from Ali for his portrayal.
Imtiaz told Diljit, “You have already achieved so much, but I can guarantee this, this is just your beginning. Wherever you go, we will be with you. I am very happy this freshness came into my life by doing this film. I am thankful to Netflix, who took it up with equal love.”
A video from the trailer launch capturing Diljit wiping away tears has gone viral on social media. In the footage, Parineeti and others can be seen offering him comfort as the crowd cheers in support of the actor.

He reminisced about Diljit’s dedication to his role, stating, ‘The way Diljit has performed in a land where everybody is scared to even look at him because he is such a big star… We are talking about a small town in Punjab… The way he was shooting his scenes over there, I am pretty sure he had forgotten who he was, and he used to perform as if he were the real Chamkila. Sometimes, even I forgot that he was not the real Chamkila, but he was Diljit.’
“Amar Singh Chamkila” marks Ali’s directorial debut in the biopic genre. Reflecting on the experience, he expressed that crafting a film based on factual events was a unique process. “It’s a departure from my previous works. Being a biopic, it required adherence to facts rather than relying on imagination to construct scenes. This boundary was intriguing and made me feel akin to making my maiden film.”
