Determining the right weight can be difficult, like in Kavita’s case who never felt happy being her ideal weight, “I always felt weak and lethargic being 52 kgs, even though according to BMI and my height it was ideal.” Here are some tips to know what is your ideal happy weight:
What is a happy weight?
It is the point where your body is perfect and you feel naturally active, eat a healthy and balanced diet and still do not gain without a lot of efforts. Much like Kavita’s case the last few pounds she lost made her energy levels plummet, she felt lethargic and craved unhealthy sugary foods.
However if you’re underweight gaining a few kilos might not really make you a healthier person and sudden weight gain can be uncomfortable.
To find your happy weight you need to think beyond a number, you should be focused on how healthy you feel at a certain weight.
How to reach your happy weight
Don’t weight yourself all the time: Obsessing about weight gain or loss post each meal is a habit many people have. However, when you need to know your happy weight, the scales have nothing to do with it. You can weight once a week nut quit checking your weight always. To get to your happy weight realise it is not just a number but a healthy lifestyle and eating modification you have to stringently follow. If you eat what your body needs over what your tongue wants half the battle is won.
Stop restricting food: Many women we know would never touch a piece of potato or rice at home, outside they will eat a plate full of chips! This is how we go wrong. See everything in a small amount is good for the body (sugar too!) but restricting yourself to something and then having a junk version of the same food will do you more harm than good. Such eating also alters weight and makes you sluggish. Your happy weight should be based on whole and nutritious foods over junk eating and starving periods! Also always stop before you feel stuffy, ideally you should stop when you are 80% full. This helps keep blood sugars stable and help your metabolism run smoothly.
Stop obsessing about your size: We have often seen a girl of M size fit into XS as she believes she looks perfect and all you see are her bulges. It is insane that a tag matters above comfort. The much famous size zero phenomenon has made many women fall ill and die. It doesn’t matter if you fit into a M or a S as long as you are comfortable about your body. If any body part is making you uncomfortable then you need to lose weight, a size tag cannot define your happiness or your happy weight. Moreover stop obsessive about celebrities and their weight, it is Kareena (or Deepika’s) job to look perfect and thin, not yours!
Say no to junk food: You can’t find your happy weight if you eat junk food. Start eating healthy foods that are nutritionally balanced and cut out the refined sugars while you’re at it. These foods mess with your mood, weight, alter your appetite and can be detrimental to your health. Your body wants healthy energy giving foods that are easy to process and do not have extreme fats and sodium.
Ditch weight loss pills: Weight loss pills or those natural products we all see on TV that melt away fat all contain caffeine which is harmful for the bode and in the long run can give you serious health issues. Your body becomes ‘used to’ these pills for any weight reduction and soon enough it stops helping you! Your body doesn’t need chemicals to get to its ideal weight all it wants s some right food and exercise.
Decrease alcohol and cigarettes: Many women in India have slowly started drinking alcohol and to substitute the alcoholic binge many starve the next day. But this leads to weight gain and makes it difficult to find your happy weight. Nicotine decreasing your weight is the biggest myth that many women believe.
Do you know your happy weight? Well it is one where you make healthy choices and your body stops piling pounds!
