Can’t wear that high waist office skirt or skin fit dress due to your belly? Do you have a bloated belly? Well, bloated belly is quite common in modern women. Many blame their jobs and sedentary lifestyle but there is more than just these reasons behind that tummy! Many Indian women (including the thin) ones have a rotund soft belly. Here are a few common reasons for your belly:
Heavy spicy food: Often desi Indian food can be troublesome and the spices can lead to irritable bowel syndrome. The spices are known to make the stomach bloat, acid reflux, stomach pain, constipation and bouts of diarrhoea. Irritable bowel syndrome is a normal condition. The best way is to eat fibre in all your meals and have lots of curd. Of course you must stay away from spicy food.
Flatulence: If you have faced embarrassing situations and are prone to passing a lot of wind you could be suffering flatulence. Excessive flatulence can be an embarrassing situation for anyone. Flatulence when collect in the stomach and gives it a bloated look, plus makes you feel uncomfortably heavy. Identify the foods which induce flatulence in you. Many a times it is foods high in non-absorbable carbs like beans and pulses, broccoli, cabbage, and apples. Try avoiding these foods. Or have saunf after having a meal.
Gluten allergy: Yes you could be allergic to gluten (widely used in breads, pastas, sauces). Are you losing weight, have stomach ache and yet a fat tummy? Ask your doctor to check if you are allergic to glutens. Many people react to gluten and end up with coeliac disease. So go to a doctor and start avoiding food containing it. Coeliac is an autoimmune disease and your immune system mistakes gluten for a threat and starts fighting it. This condition can harm your health besides that bloated look it can lead to difficulties in absorbing nutrients from food which could make you weak.
Hormonal reasons: A bloated stomach can be an indicator that all is not well with your hormone levels. If you are just before your period or in the early stage of pregnancy the levels of progesterone raise. This makes the gut slow down which makes the stomach bloat and the digestive system to slow down. Walking or regular exercise is a good idea. Also fight the bloated stomach by drinking lots of water, warm water is better and have 2-3 glasses of green tea. PS avoid refined flours and meats as they increase bloating in this period, switch to fruit and vegetables.
Tight jeans and panties: Yes you read it right. Sometimes a size too small underwear can make your tummy bloat out due to tight waistbands. Wearing jeans that are tight on your stomach can push the fat out and give your stomach a bloated look. Always check and wear your right size. If you have recently gained weight buy a new pair and lose till you do not start fitting in your old ones.
