Dilli 32 The Leela Ambience Convention Delhi’s Grand Trunk Journey reaches Benaras
Benaras, the land of sages, Ganges and wisdom has unique hidden gems of food. Up above the usual kachodi, poori fare. There are dishes here have a charm and when we tried the stellar new menu at Dilli 32, The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel Delhi, we were amazed.
The Grand Trunk Culinary Journey began from the buttery richness of Amritsar, moved to the bylanes of old Delhi reached the next pit stop Benaras. The food festival celebrates cuisines across the NH1 (Grand Trunk Road) in India bringing the food enthusiasts most popular, delectable and authentic dishes from each city. To bring out the flavours of the unique dishes Executive Chef Rohit Tokhi and Chef de Cuisine, Ashwani Kumar Singh travelled to Banaras to gather the secrets of the food of the holy city.
What all to try: Well for us the first love was Tamater Ki Chat and Chenna Dahi Vada. The Tamater Ki Chat is tangy still sweet but with a great medley of flavours. The Chenna Dahi Vada was a star of the day for me, it is much more like a rasogulla with dahi.
The Baati Chokha was perfection, served with a mutton alternative for non-vegetarians. The chokha was buttery and spicy, the perfect combination of mustard oil in brinjal. They got us a special set also popularly known a nashta. Now nashta is basically a breakfast and tea snacking. This has badi kachori, choti kachori, bhaji & Jalebi. The kachoris go well with the alu ki subzi and the jalebi is a delicious palate cleanser!
Surprisingly there is ample non vegetarian food in Benaras all thanks to a small sect of Muslim. Their rendition of chilli chicken is unique, different and spicy in a masaledar way.
Gutwa kebab is possibly the most unique kebab dish, it is a semi solid kebab with spices and juicy enough to be had with a roti.
The desserts are exemplary and exquisite. The hot Gud ki Kheer is perfectly sweet ending to a beautiful meal.
