Food review: Garam Dharam dhaba teh Theeka

A trip to Garam Dharam Dhaba the Theka was in my list since the place opened sometime in September least year. After many failed attempts I reached this quirky and perfect restaurant one cold December evening. Now the place is so well made interior wise that you want to enjoy the decor for a few minutes before thinking about food.

Ambience: Themed around Bollywood’s iconic Dharmendra the restaurants has his photo painted in the middle of the two story restaurant. The Sholay bike, old school phones, kadhai as lamps. The quirkyness doesn’t end there they have a beautiful bar which resembles a highway theka complete with red bricks, and enclosures.

Food: The food is still the king at Garam Dharam and the food is unapologetically Punjabi. The cuisine is North Indian and it has lip smacking tastes which call you back again & again.

In the vegetarian starters the Dahi ke Kebab shine. The kebabs are soft and they have a filling inside which makes it delectable.

The soya chap are fried and filled with a paste inside the flavours did not appeal me. The ananas ki chaat is spicy but this offsets the natural taste of pineapples really well.

The non vegetarian starters were a delight! I loved the sangam seekh it is essentially a mutton seekh wrapped in chicken seekh which makes it yummy and a must try for non vegetarians. Hubby loved the
Andhra chicken and kept on discussing how this was the perfect pairing for alcoholic beverages as its spicy and still not too heavy on the palate.

The main course is equally great the balti meat is one of the best I have had. The chicken curry is perfectly made with its signature thin hot gravy it was perfect to dip hot rotis in. The dal makhani which I consider a benchmark to judge Indian food came out in flying colours. Soft, gently spiced and not overloaded with cream this dal makhani is a delight.

The sweet dishes are something we do not discuss often and this time around we had the yummiest of them. There was beautiful rabri which I devoured. The kheer was nice and had kesar silvers. The custard was passable.

Must haves: Overall everything is a must try. But I loved the sangam seekh, dahi ke kebab, rabri, balti meat and dal makhani.
