We all often want a perfect heavy breakfast to begin our day with optimum energy. So when Zambar at CyberHub, Gurgaon called us over for an all new breakfast menu, I was excited. Zambar is an award winning restaurant for its costal cuisine and sea food. Breakfast here seemed an uncharted territory for me too, I did not know what to expect!
After a warm welcome on a sunny Saturday, we got amazing fresh cold pineapple juice to have while deciding our orders.
So the concept of breakfast at a place like Zambar, is for the corporate offices nearby or a quick meeting. I imagined the breakfast to be about idli and other South Indian food but the offer an all around menu. From eggs to upma! Keeping in mind their clientele the food is low on oil and spices which makes sense for a breakfast too.
What to try: Please try their pineapple juice, it’s fresh and the best ever!
The poha is well made with lots of nuts, cashews to impart a nutty flavour. The upma is the best I have had in ages, a bit dry so that it’s crumbly. With a powerhouse of nuts and coconut.
They also do their signature and super yummy Vada, Idly and Dosa.
The surprise came when the chef served us chole bhature, the chole were almost oil free and tasted great. The bhature were piping hot and served with some mango pickle.
They surprised us further with aloo poori and paranthas. The aloo here were tempered with mustard seeds and tasted different. They are made with a South Indian style cooking. The paranthas were thin, with some filling and lightly toasted and for a Punjabi like me who grew up on over-stuffed paranthas a bit lacking.
They do the basic egg fry, also called the Malabar Sunny Side Up, with sautéed mushrooms, toast and grilled tomato really well.
Will I visit again: As I often say, breakfast options need to increase in our city as there is a huge untapped potential. I will surely go again.
