There was a time when PVR Saket Community centre was among the happening places of Delhi. But over the time the malls have taken over all the markets of the capital. Recently I visited this market for a bloggers lunch at a newly launched cafe & bar “Locale” by restaurateurs Gurvinder & Nainjyot Dham.
Ambience: Located on the first floor above Pind Balluchi this place is divided into two floors and has a refreshing feel because of the lush green surroundings . They have a library too so you can sit here for a coffee and read a book . The interiors have a raw and rustic feel to it and the wooden furniture goes well with the decor. The poster on the walls are pretty interesting and are not to be missed.
Food: The place offers a mix of everything -North Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Thai and Lebanese. Some of the must try appetizers for the non vegetarians are Thai Chicken Water Chestnut Salad which is very refreshing , Bread Roll Prawn in Sweet n Chilli Sauce(fried prawns rolled in bread) which is quite unique and delicious too, Mutton Koboideh( koobideh or koubideh refers to the style by which meat is s prepared. It is cooked on a seekh) which is served with pita bread and salad and Amritsari Fish Tikka. In soups Tom Yum Chicken soup is not to be missed.
For the vegetarians Soya Chap Tikka(the chap is well cooked and full of flavours), Mushroom corn cigars(highly recommended), Mojito fruit salad, Cheese Stuffed Paneer Tikka are few good bets for appetizers. For lemongrass flavour lovers Waterchestnut Spring Roll is a must have.(it has strong flavour of lemongrass)
Coming to the main course, the Dal Makhani, Cheesy Mushroom Ragout with Jalapeno Corn Rice, Chicken Tikka Masala with Lachha Parantha, Smoked Steak of Chicken with creamy corn and Pepper Pilaf, Stir Fried Sezchun Chicken and Bamboo Shoots with Garlic Fried Rice and Exotic Vegetables with Basil and Chili Coat served with Garlic Fried Rice are delicious.
As the coin has the other side too, so the food has some misses too. Loaded Nachos are very average, Fish Vepudu is a Chettinad style fish full on flavors but rice coating makes the fish very hard, Dahi ke kebab are bland , Asian style Five Spice Mutton Chops with Bellpepper Fried Rice looks tempting but is low on taste.
Desserts: The Sizzling Walnut Brownie with Ice Cream is quite sizzling and delicious.
Drinks: In mocktails you can try Wild Herb Guava, Green Mountain( be careful with this drink the ice mountain gets spilled once the ice starts melting) and Purple Shadow. In shakes Ferrero Rocher Shake and Oreo Shake are worth giving a shot.
Meal for two: It would cost you within INR 2000
Overall its a nice place to hangout with friends or family over a scrumptious meal. Do give it a visit next time you are in that area. The portion size is also good so it won’t be heavy on the pocket too.
