Last month my friend went to Kathmandu and insisted me to plan a trip to Kathmandu as she had a great time in casinos. I got persuaded and planed a trip with my few others friends to Kathmandu. But unfortunately as we landed there we got to know that all casinos have been shut due to some tax and royalty payment issue.
This news was really disappointing but now that we were there we had to do something to make our trip memorable. While planning the trip I asked my friend about the few good markets in Kathmandu so I had an idea about things to do.
The first day we all decided to go to Thamel, a popular tourist market mostly flooded with foreign tourists. Thamel has a lot to offer from good restaurants dance bars ,departmental stores and much more. While hanging around in the market we came across this place named Roadhouse café and decided to walk in to enjoy a meal.
Ambience: This eatery has both indoor and outdoor seating with a live wood fired pizza section. The interiors have a classic feel to it. Outside it’s a garden restaurant with umbrellas and plants around. You would hear Bollywood songs playing in the background. It’s a good place to enjoy a meal with family as well as friends. They offer a free wi-fi too
.
Food: The menu is a mix of everything from Italian to Nepalese but they specialise in wood fired pizzas. They have a bar too so choose between wines, beer, cocktails, mocktails and hot and cold beverages. The portion size is also good. Overall the food quality and taste is good so you can pick anything and you won’t be disappointed.
Price: It is reasonable priced as compared to a metropolitan city café. A 30 cm Hawaiian pizza would cost you close to INR 330. They also charge 10% service tax and 13% vat.
Meal for Two: A meal for two would easily cost you INR 1200 including taxes. Rest it depends on your order.
Service: The service is pretty slow so if you are in a hurry avoid this place.
Must try: If here do try one of their wood fired pizza which is their specialty (the thin crust pizzas is loaded with toppings and is yummy-licious). The calzones are equally good. You can also make your own pizza both veg and non-veg with four toppings. For cheese lovers four cheese pizza is a good bet.
The vegetarians can go for momo vegetables, pizza jiardinera (seasonal grilled veggies) , nachos( with spicy tomato salsa, cheese, nachos sauce and sour cream), spaghetti tomato basil(spaghetti tomato sauce with fresh basil), agilo olio spaghetti(roasted garlic, chilly flakes, parsley and parmesan cheese). Ceaser salad and greek salad too are delicious. For non-vegetarians grilled pork chop, ham, mushroom and black olives pizza, non-veg calzone and chicken
burritos are few good bets. You can also try the Nepali platter. In desserts don’t miss lemon tart, tiramisu and brownie.
Rating: I would give it 4/5 (-1 for the slow service).
Would I visit again: I would surely suggest my friends to visit this eatery while in Kathmandu. They have other branches too in Kathmandu.
