Must eats in Mussoorie: Kalsang

Kalsang Restaurant

Nestled right in front of the bank in Mussoorie is this cozy and warm eatery. Kalsang is an extremely popular food joint in Mussoorie. Kalsang offers you an excellent variety of yummylious Chinese, Thai and Indian Chinese fare. Located on the mall road you need to climb a few steep stairs to reach this place.

Over the extended weekend I went to Mussoorie with my friends and tried out this place and unlike others we didn’t have to wait for a table all thanks to the torrential rainfall! The warm red ambiance, the strange hairdos of the servers and notes praising Kalsang grabbed my attention. Till the time your food comes the messages will keep you engaged!

Food: The place offers an extensive and excellent variety of Chinese, Tibetan and Thai cuisine. The scrumptious food is surely a treat for the taste buds. Though it’s not authentic to the core but it is wholesome good food. Kalsang is better than the staple desi Chinese which most Mussoorie eateries offer. The waiters are generous and polite and the service is quick. Though you will have to wait but the finger licking food will compensate.

Price: The place is very reasonable priced and the serving size is also fine. And if you do not like the hotel food they can discreetly deliver you food there!

Meal for Two: About 600 INR.

Ambiance: The place has hues of red and the decor is depicts the ‘free Tibet’ slogan. There are quirky old coins, international currency which add an interesting element to the ambiance. The waiters dress up in red Chinese attire and adorn ‘free Tibet’ flags and bracelets. The customers’ feedback and messages (written on tissue papers) are placed under the glass-top on the table which can help you select the popular dishes. In fact I tried Chicken Momos gravy because it was highly recommended on my table!

Must Try: The menu is elaborated and offers a whole range of Thai, Tibetan and Chinese. The soft and juicy momos are to die forChicken fried rice, Thupka, Mix meat rice, Chicken momos gravy, and Vegetable fried rice with black mushrooms and Crispy Babycorn are few good bets.
