On an uninspiring and super hot Monday morning hubby decided to lift my mood by treating me to a decent breakfast and we went to the Blue Door Café at Khan Market. It was close to 1 PM (almost lunch hour) when we reached. The café is located on the first floor after a brief flight of stairs. Here’s my experience at the Blue Door Café, Khan Market went:
Ambience: The restaurant has a huge wine bar right as you enter and some leather sofas seats and clean white tables in the sitting area. Overall a clean and neat looking place with a glass walled kitchen you can peep into. The second floor which also has open sitting boasts of an art gallery where you can browse and buy beautiful art pieces. We took a table by the window and began deciding what to order. For 1 PM, it was decidedly empty as we were the only two people in the café.
Food: The food is claimed as one of Delhi’s best burgers and crepes. The menu contains a mix of everything from salads, to sweet and savoury crepes, to a huge egg menu, to some Italian, burgers and sandwiches.
Price: Most items are priced around 400 INR mark, so this is moderately expensive.
Meal for Two: Will cost you above 2000 INR.
Service: The service was horrible, which made me unhappy about visiting this café. The waiters were busy refilling chilli and oregano in their jars so much so that they forgot to refill our glasses with water and take away dirty dishes! Any place with bad service always makes me unhappy.
Must try: Since I had heard about their omelets, I decided to have the Le Gruyere Omelette, which was supposed to be thick omelette of three eggs with Le Gruyere cheese. The waiter came back
and told us that they had run out of cheese and he could replace the cheese with cheddar, now I wanted my cheese omlette and after some thinking and consulting the waiter, I agreed to try it. The omlette which came out was a flat one loaded with cheese on top! Plus it was cold and under flavoured.
Hubby was excited to try their burgers and wanted a chicken option and sadly there is only one chicken burger in the menu, the Fire House Burger, which is spicy burger with BBQ sauce and jalapenos. The burger was huge and served with a batch of fries and salad. Now the burger looked tempting but it was so huge (the unflavoured patty particularly) eating it became a downright mess. We had sauce on our face hands and the filling kept slipping out, something that irks me and the bun started getting soggy with the sauce and breaking. Also the huge patty could have more flavours.
The Crepe alla Nutella was the only saving grace with a huge serving of nutella on top making it super sweet and a delight for the sweet tooth in me!
Rating: 1/5 the crepe is the only saving grace, I now understand why it was empty at lunch hour!
