Banoffee pie is essentially a toffee and banana flavoured dessert. The toffee makes it silky decadent and bananas with cream add to the taste. On my anniversary I decided to don the chefs hat and make this dessert for him and it was as good as the one available at bakeries. If you make Dulche de Leche or the toffee in advance it takes just 20 mins to make this decadent dessert. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

200 gms digestive biscuits

3 spoons unsalted butter

3 spoons Dulche de Leche (recipe in end)

1 banana

Whipped cream

Chocolate shavings

Method:

  1. Crumble biscuits in a grinder and add melted butter.
  2. Now on a greased glass bowl make a base with this mixture. Make sure its even. Refrigerate for 15 minutes or till its set.
  3. Apply a liberal layer of Dulche de Leche.
  4. Place banana slices.
  5. Top with whipped cream.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top and refrigerate.

For Dulche de Leche

1 can milkmaid

Method:

  1. In a 5 litre cooker place the milkmaid unopened can immersd in water. Make sure its covered in water.
  2. Set on gas and after one whistle. Lower the heat to minimum and let it cook for exactly 20 minutes.
  3. Remover cooker from heat. Open when it has cooled down and take out the milkmaid can. Let the can cool down. Open it and it’s ready.
  4. You can refrigerate this for a week to 10 days.
