The Epic Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari is officially announced to release in Two parts on Diwali 2026 & 2027
Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash are set to bring the timeless Indian epic Ramayana to life on the big screen in a visually stunning, two-part saga directed by the talented Nitesh Tiwari. Spanning two Diwalis—2026 and 2027—this grand project aims to reimagine the cherished tale of Ramayana for today’s audiences.
Ranbir Kapoor will step into the role of Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi, celebrated for her expressive and nuanced acting, will take on the character of Sita. Joining them is Yash, the Kannada superstar best known for his KGF films, who will play the formidable Raavan, bringing his intense energy to one of Indian mythology’s most complex villains.
The cast also includes some familiar faces portraying iconic characters: Lara Dutta as the Kaikeyi, Sunny Deol as the mighty Hanuman, and Sheeba Chaddha as the scheming Manthara.
Namit Malhotra, CEO of Prime Focus Studios and a key figure behind Hollywood films like Inception and Dune, has been the driving force behind this ambitious project. Malhotra shared his passion and vision in a statement, saying, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen. Today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture—our Ramayana—for people across the world.”
In a surprise reveal, Malhotra posted the film’s first poster on his Instagram. It showcases a glowing golden arrow—a powerful symbol in the Ramayana story—set against a mystical background. With the poster’s tagline, “Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana,” the excitement around this production has already gone viral.
This teaser has set fans buzzing, especially since it confirms the film’s first part will release during Diwali 2026, with the second installment following a year later. This early reveal adds to the anticipation, giving fans ample time to get ready for an extraordinary journey through this beloved story.
Director Nitesh Tiwari, known for his work on Dangal and Chhichhore, is no stranger to bringing big ideas to the screen with sensitivity and depth. Together with Malhotra’s vision and experience, the team is creating a Ramayana that combines reverence for the original text with the grandeur of modern filmmaking. This adaptation is expected to go beyond special effects and Hollywood-style action scenes; instead, it promises a truly immersive experience that does justice to the story’s spiritual significance and timeless themes of love, duty, and honor.
While the project has largely been under wraps, earlier this year, a leaked photo from the set made waves across social media. The image featured Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi dressed as Lord Ram and Sita, hinting at the dedication and detail involved in the costume design and world-building. Fans are eager to see more glimpses as production continues, adding to the mounting excitement.
