As Taliban takes over Afghanistan, the world is angry, sad & helpless!

People cry in sadness as scary pictures of Taliban taking over Afghanistan emerge:

While we were celebrating our Independence Day on 15th August, the people of Afghanistan lost their freedom as the Taliban entered Kabul and took over the country. The situation worsened as the US withdrew its troops and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country stating that the Taliban had won. The Taliban militants entered Kabul almost 20 years after they were ousted from power by a US-led invasion. This takeover has led to chaos and citizens are desperately trying to flee the region.  Videos from Kabul airport have flooded social media with hundreds of citizens trying to enter the airport, while many others scrambling for a spot on a flight.

In a heartbreaking video, two men fell off the plane as they were holding on to the wheel of the plane in order to flee the country. In some other videos, the Taliban can be seen erasing pictures of women from billboards and windows.

The Taliban, fighting with Afghanistan forces to take control of a large part of the war-torn country, has issued a statement ordering local religious leaders to give them a list of girls over 15 years of age and widows under 45, reports have said.  The Taliban has promised for them to be married to their fighters and taken to Pakistan’s Waziristan, where they will be converted to Islam and reintegrated. Earlier in Taliban rule in 2001, women were barred from going to school, work outside the home or leave their house without a male escort in Afghanistan. Violators were humiliated publicly and beaten up by the Taliban’s religious police.

Senior Taliban leader Amir Khan Muttaqi is said to be in the Afghan capital negotiating with Kabul’s political leadership, including Abdullah Abdullah.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai expressed that she was deeply concerned about the situation in Afghanistan, particularly the safety of women and girls, and called on Monday for world leaders to take urgent action.

“This is actually an urgent humanitarian crisis right now that we need to provide our help and support,” Yousafzai said. She said that she had sent a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan asking him to admit Afghan refugees.

She has earlier survived being shot in the head by a Pakistani Taliban gunman in 2012 after she was targeted for her campaign against its efforts to deny women education.

India is also doing their part in helping the people out there. India evacuated its embassy in Kabul this morning amid an escalating humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Two aircraft were deployed for the evacuation of the embassy staff on Sunday. The first IAF C-17 aircraft with 45 personnel returned on Monday. India has also announced a new category of electronic visa – “e-Emergency X-Misc Visa” – to fast-track applications from Afghans who wish to leave the Taliban-controlled country.

People all around the world are praying for Afghanistan.

Several Bollywood personalities took to social media to show their support. Check out the posts below:
