Here is how Bollywood celebs responded to this absurd comment from MLA in Uttar Pradesh.
The recent gang-rape case in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh infuriated the entire country and people demanded justice. Women in India continue to suffer and the politicians still have the most absurd things to say while trying to justify this heinous act.
Surendra Singh, BJP MLA was recorded saying that daughters of our country can be protected if the parents make sure to teach them ‘Sanskar’ and good values. He also added that just like it is the government’s responsibility to provide protection, it is the duty of the parents to teach their daughters good values.
After the statement was released, he received backlash from several people, including Bollywood celebrities who raised voice against this ideology.
Kriti Sanon, Swara Bhaskar, and many other actors shared their opinion and called out the MLA. Here is what they said:
Teach daughters how to not get raped??? Can he hear himself talk? THIS is the MINDSET that needs to change! Its so messed up! Why can’t they give some sanskaar to their sons??? https://t.co/JXj9Tx6YOe

Please don’t even try @kritisanon. After having watched several documentaries and conversed with people with similar mindsets, I realised that these men can never identify themselves in the wrong. I was shocked to her the reasoning behind why rape shouldn’t be a big deal.

Other celebrities condemned the act after the news was shared and seek justice for Manisha, who was gang-raped in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
Tried really hard to gather my thoughts before expressing my sorrow, anger & disgust. It’s 2020 & still so many Nirbhayas have to give their lives. Can’t imagine the pain she must have endured & her family. Praying for severe punishment & justice

The UP police cremated the body of the rape victim of Hathras at 2.,30 in the night without the permission or even the presence of the family . It leaves us with a question . What makes them confident that they will get away with this audacity . Who has given them this assurance
