The National Awards ceremony was held in the capital yesterday, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu presented the awards out to the winners. The event took place at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.

This year’s Dasasaheb Phalke awardee winner Amitabh Bachchan could not attend the event, but the vice-president himself paid tribute to Amitabh Bachchan in his speech calling him “an institution by himself”.

Some special mentions were made to a few awardees including Best Actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal, Best Actress Keerthy Suresh, and Akshay Kumar, whose movie PadMan won the award for Best Film on Social Issues.

The winners of the Best Music Direction are- Sanjay Leela Bhansali for “Padmaavat” and Shashwat Sachdev for Uri: The Surgical Strike were also praised.
