Maharashtra might announce fresh lockdown as Covid cases continue to increases in the state:
As there is an increased surge in Covid cases in the state of Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has given a stern warning to the people of the state and said there will be a total lockdown if people don’t start wearing face masks. CM Thackeray said that ‘lockdown will start wherever needed’.
The CM Uddhav Thackeray said that he was monitoring the residents for the next 10 to 15 days and if the Covid-19 norms were flouted, he would be forced to reimpose a lockdown in the state.
The government has imposed Covid restrictions such as restricting movement at night and preventing more than five people from coming together.
CM Uddhav Thackeray announced that all political, religious, and social gatherings will be prohibited in the state from Monday. He said that the political agitations will not be allowed for the next few days as they attract crowds.
In Amravati, the district administration has announced a lockdown from Saturday to Monday. but essential services will remain unaffected. The total number of Covid patients in the district has jumped to 4,020.
Cinema houses, gyms, swimming pools, parks will remain shut and gatherings for entertainment, educational, cultural, religious purposes, etc will not be permitted.
Other than the 7-day lockdown in Amravati, certain restrictions will be in place in four other districts of the Amravati division namely Akola, Washim, Buldhana, and Yavatmal.
With the reference to the state government’s campaign against coronavirus ‘my family, my responsibility, the chief minister introduced a new slogan “I am responsible”.
“The new slogan ‘I am responsible’ conveys that people must be responsible for themselves. They should make sure that they are wearing a mask, keeping social distancing and washing their hands,” he stated.
Maharashtra reported 6,971 fresh Covid-19 cases and 2,417 recoveries in the last 24 hours. As per the state health department, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra reached 21,00,884. The number of active cases stands at 52,956 in Maharashtra.
