Jamia? CAA? Many Bollywood stars are silent on student protest:
We all aware of the situation that the country is facing right now. And people on Twitter are calling out Bollywood A-listers for remaining silent on Delhi Police forcible attack on Jamia Millia Islamia students studying in its library.
Earlier in the day, the students of Jamia had led protests against the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), passed by Parliament last week. After violently mocking down students, many of whom had to be rushed to the Holy Family hospital, the cops detained several students, releasing them only after mass protests outside the Delhi police headquarters.
As protests are spreading across cities in India, people from Hindi Film Industry are quiet. Several alumni from Jamia namely Kabir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and others didn’t come out in support of protesting the students and twitter is angry on this, people are calling out the industry for its silence.
Actress Sayani Gupta (Article 15, Margarita with a Straw), tagged actors who were part of a group that hung out with Prime Minister Narendra Modi early this year.
On behalf of the students of Jamia & AMU request at least one of you to tweet or message Mr.Modi condemning this act of police brutality and violence against students. The time has come to speak up guys. Yes? No? May be?@RanveerOfficial @karanjohar @ayushmannk @RajkummarRao pic.twitter.com/6l5ky5zbNt

Icons speak up. Icons take a stand. Bollywood at #U2Mumbai .. an Irish band raised the uncomfortable truth while you remain quiet again while your students protest. #Bollywood @rohitkhilnani @GargiRawat @MitaliLive pic.twitter.com/Ef32cO7bEP

Does anyone other than @anubhavsinha @IamOnir @ReallySwara @RichaChadha & a handful of others have a spine in Bollywood? Silent on every issue of crushing importance. More disappointing when you see Hollywood biggies leading march on sexual violence, climate change, immigration.

Whereas, there are some people from the film industry that showed their support:
JNU, FTII, AMU, Nalanda, BHU, Cotton University, Jamia Milia … scared of students much? This is not a coincidence.

I studied at Jamia. It is where I trained to be a filmmaker, where I met my best friends for life. It is the place that gave me hope and encouragement when I was a confused young girl trying to navigate my way through life. I have such fond memories. But today….
