Finally the Delhi High court has lifted the temporary ban on Gulaab Gang. The court stayed the release of the film till May 8 on the basis of a plea filed by Sampat Pal, leader of the real life Gulabi Gang that closely resembles the characters in the film.
Read out the review of the film and celebrate women’s day by watching a film on women empowerment.
Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Divya Jagdale and Priyanka Bose
Director: Sounik Sen
Story: The movie is based on Gulabi Gang, a group of Indian women vigilantes and activists dressed in pink saris, fighting against the social injustice and operating in the Bundelkhand region of central India. The story is about two women played by Rajjo (Gulab Gang leader) and Sumitra Devi (politician). Rajjo runs an aashram that not only educates women but gives them a means of livelihood and fights for justice she then comes face to face with the matriarch politician Sumitra Devi who is an unforgiving and evil politician. The first half of the film a series of event that establishes the Gulaab Gang and their motives while the second half shows the bitter battle between Didiji and Madamji!
Madhuri believes the depraving condition of women could be changed with women empowerment, the latter thinks that a woman in power holds the key to up-liftment.
Music: The music of the film doesn’t have a chart-bursting number but a couple of songs are good. The song Gulaabi sung by Malabika Brahma is full of energy. Dheemi dheemi si is a perfect jugalbandi of classical and folk and is sung by Kaushiki Chakroborty and Malabika Brahma. The other songs are also good with a classical and folk touch. Even Madhur and her mum have also lend their voice in the song Rangi saari gulaabi.
Why to watch Gulaab Gang: The two contemporaries of their times Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla have come together for this move so it’s a must watch. Also for some commendable dialogues.
Why to miss Gulaab Gang: The movie is not a biopic of Sampat Devi but is closely related to her so do give it a watch on women’s day.
Special mention:The dialogues of the film are very powerful and the best is” Jaise til mein tel hai aur paththar mein aag, tera Sai tujh mein hain tu jaag sake toh jag”. The supporting cast Divya Jagdale (as Mahi) and Priyanka Bose (as Sandhya) deserve a mention here.
