Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently undertaking a state visit to the United States. As part of this prestigious visit, US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted a dinner in honor of Modi at the White House. The dinner, known for its grandeur, has been meticulously planned to accommodate Modi’s vegetarian dietary preference, with a thoughtfully curated menu.
First Lady Jill Biden revealed on Wednesday that, recognizing Modi’s dietary choices, she invited Chef Nina Curtis, an expert in plant-based cuisine, to design an impressive vegetarian menu.

First course: Marinated millet, grilled corn kernel salad, compressed watermelon, tangy avocado sauce.
Main course: Stuffed portobello mushrooms, creamy saffron-infused risotto, sumac roasted sea bass, lemon-dill yogurt sauce, crisped millet cakes, summer squashes.
As the official gifts, the Prime Minister gave a handcrafted sandalwood box to President Joe Biden, and a 7.5-carat eco-friendly green diamond to the First Lady.
The sandalwood box gifted to President Biden, who turns 81 in November, contains a silver idol of Lord Ganesha, a diya (oil lamp) and ‘Das Danam’ .
“Das Danam” signifies donations made when a person becomes ‘Drishta Sahasrachandro’ or the one who has seen one thousand full moons after completing the age of 80 years and eight months.
The Prime Minister also gifted Joe Biden a copy of the first edition print of the book ‘The Ten Principal Upanishads’. The diamond, gifted to Jill Biden, was placed in a box made of paper pulp, known as kar-e-kalamdani.
PM Modi received a handcrafted, antique American book galley by the Bidens. Additionally, the first couple gifted him a vintage American camera, a hardcover book showcasing American wildlife photography, and a signed, first-edition copy of ‘Collected Poems of Robert Frost.
PM Modi has become the third Indian to receive a prestigious invitation for a state visit, which is widely regarded as the utmost symbol of strong and amicable relations, reserved exclusively for the closest allies. During a state visit, the Head of State extends an invitation to the honored guest to visit their official residence.
