Sonam Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘Neerja’ based on the real life of brave heart – Neerja Bhanot is banned in Pakistan for showing the country in poor light. The film centers the Pan Am flight 73 hijack at Karachi airport in 1986, where an air hostess in Mumbai-New York flight, Neerja Bhanot was shot dead by terrorists while she was trying to save the lives of passengers. She was also felicitated with Ashoka chakra for this act. Touching the heights of weirdness, this film is banned there without even being submitted to censor boards.
The advertisement of the movie had shown its release in many newspapers all over Pakistan across many cineplexes and single screen theatres on 19th February but ministry of commerce changed their decision at the end moment. They revoked the No Objection Certificate initially issued. IMGC executive director Abid Rasheed admitted before media that the film has some anti-Muslim elements and it showed Pakistan in a negative light. Earlier Pakistan banned films like Ek tha tiger, Chennai Express, Tere bin Laden, Bhag Milkha Bhag and Lahore were banned by Pakistan government.
