Today on World Aids Day, lets know a little bit more about this disease and help spread awareness. Here are 5 misconceptions about aids:

HIV and AIDS are the same: HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)  are not the same diseases. People with HIV contact AIDS when a set of cells called CD4 deplete to 200 cells.
AIDS is communicable like sneezes: No, AIDS can transfer only through blood-to-blood contact. Unsafe sexual contact is the number 1 reason for transmission of AIDS worldwide. Drug abuse and blood transfers are also reasons. A child can get aids from an infected mother’s breast feed too.
AIDS virus never dies: A drop of blood infected with AIDS dies after a minute of contacting the air.
Symptoms of AIDS: Sadly, there are no preset symptoms of aids in earlier stages. The symptoms start showing up late. Some of the known symptoms are similar to flu like fever, headaches and throat infections.
AIDS is curable: The sad part, in spite hundreds of medication, AIDS cannot be cured. Though some medicines will help keep the levels of virus low. No medication can completely cure it. Though hundreds of medication for cure of AIDS are being tried and developed  lets hope for a cure soon.
