There may be a relation between dengue and coronavirus cases and this research study shows how.
There are many research studies being conducted to understand coronavirus and its effects and a recent study shows the relation between dengue and COVID-19. The research study was led by Miguel Nicolelis who is a professor at Duke University and shared that areas in Brazil that have experienced intense dengue outbreak have reported fewer coronavirus cases.
“This striking finding raises the intriguing possibility of immunological cross-reactivity between dengue’s Flavivirus serotypes and SARS-CoV-2,” says the study and if this hypothesis is supported with enough evidence then dengue vaccine could help provide immunization against coronavirus.
In previous studies, it has been discovered that people with antibodies due to dengue have tested positive for coronavirus, even if they aren’t carrying the infection and this interaction between the two diseases is surprising. A correlation has also been established between lower mortality rates and COVID-10 cases in areas of Brazil. The research study will be submitted to a science journal
Brazil is the third most-affected country due to coronavirus, just behind the USA and India. People are being told to take all necessary precautions as the number of cases is continuously on the rise.
Practice social distancing while heading out and don’t forget to wear your mask when you are around people and in public areas.
