The harmful particles in the air can inflame the linings of your bronchial tubes and lungs, resulting in respiratory illnesses like chronic bronchitis, emphysema, heart disease, lung cancer, asthma, etc. health experts recommend eating a healthy diet to reduce the side effect of pollution. So, here is a list of foods that can protect you from the adverse effects of pollution: 

  • Turmeric 

Turmeric is a golden ingredient of Indian spices, throughout this pandemic it has proven to be one of the most important home remedies. Curcumin, the active agent present in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory properties that protect the lungs from the toxic effects of pollutants. So intake as much turmeric as you can include it in your food and drinks. Have turmeric milk and tea daily. 

  • Jaggery 

Jaggery known as gur in India is loaded with iron. It can help improve the hemoglobin level in the blood, therefore increasing the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood. So this further treats breathing-related issues. You can eat raw jaggery, include it in your tea or eat food items made of it like laddoo, chikki, pinni, etc.

  • Nuts and seeds 

Some nuts and seeds like walnuts and flaxseeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and phytoestrogens. While omega-3 fatty acids protect the heart and blood vessels from the harmful effects of smog, phytoestrogens have antioxidant properties which can cut down the oxidative stress in the body.so keep eating them throughout the day.
