Minni Jain loves to sleep! Her ideal sleeping time is some six to seven hours but in the morning she always feels tired and knackered.

Do you also wake up tied and groggy? One look at most Indian women and you can see those saggy, tired, panda eyes. Haven’t we all complaint of fatigue, drowsiness and lack of sleep every now and then? Sounds a little too familiar?

Poor sleep can make you slower, stressed and can play havoc with your system. Researchers have of late linked lack of proper sleep to diabetes, obesity, depression and heart ailments!  Here are a few ways to get a refreshing deep sleep:

Banish tele-time: Avoid watching television on bed or right before bedtime. Your bed should be a place to rest and romance. Anything other than the two is not a good idea. Watching television right before sleeping can tire your eyes. This makes falling asleep difficult.

Change your pillow: Many of us do not change our pillows or mattresses for years together. Pillows and mattresses lose their shape after a few years. If you are not comfortable with your old pillow buy a new one. Also over the years pillows become a storehouse for bacteria and germs. Grab a new one.

Say no to caffeine: Make a rule not to have caffeine after 6 pm. Tea, coffee and cola can be the culprits behind your fidgety sleep. If you want to have drinks try green tea, nimbu pani milk or decaffeinated coffee.

Relax: Listen to soothing music. Download the relaxing sounds application on your smart phone. You can try and meditate. Clear your mind of all the stress and unwind.

Try aromatherapy: Aroma oils can help in relaxing the mind and enhancing your sleep. Put some Lavender oil in your bath or put a drop on your pillow and feel the stress melt away!

Ice your eyes: Constant staring at the computer can result in itchy, dry and tired eyes. Ice packs help relax tired eyes. Buy one from Faces or Body shop. Just freeze these packs and put on your eyes for a few minutes before sleeping.
