NGOs are distributing sattu along with dry ration as it is highly nutritious.
People across India are suffering from various losses and others are struggling to stay alive. With every project being put on hold and scarce job opportunities, people living below the poverty line are unable to feed their families and migrant workers are finding it hard to survive.
Many NGOs and self-help organizations have taken up the responsibility of feeding people who are in dire need of supplies. Along with dry ration and other food items, Sattu has emerged as a preferred commodity as it is also recognized as a superfood and is extremely nutritious.
Sattu is a staple in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal and all the volunteers are preparing is from the mixture of horse gram and jaggery. This mixture is later sieved and made into a flour, followed by its distribution.
There are many benefits of consuming Sattu. It is a great immunity booster and energizes the body. It is also rich in iron, manganese, and magnesium and is also a great cooling agent that helps in the scorching heat of summers.
Ayushmann Khurrana is also turning to a sattu concoction during this lockdown and identifies it as a great protein source when mixed with buttermilk.
“Saatu flushes out toxins and it is considered to be a full meal. It can be had as a shake with a bit of salt, raw onion, cumin, green chili, and lemon. It’s a great idea to serve sattu to keep people fit,!” Said Nishant Choubey who is a chef.
