Here are the new guidelines issued by ICMT for COVID-19 testing.
The testing around the country was expected to increase as the cases are on the rise but to take pressure off the laboratories, ICMR has issued new guidelines for COVID-19 testing. Take a look at the new guidelines below:
No RT-PCR test recommended in case:
- The person has tested positive once by RT-PCR
- The person has tested positive by a rapid antigen test
- Patients during the discharge process
- People who show no symptoms and are taking domestic flights

The laboratories in India are currently burdened with the rising number of cases and staff testing positive. This has significantly increased pressure on laboratories that are testing people for COVID-19.
People who are showing symptoms but have tested negative through raid antigen test can go for RT-PCR testing.
Many people who have been vaccinated also tested positive for COVID-19 so ICMR has made it mandatory to mention vaccination status before getting tested through either of the methods.
Patients showing symptoms of COVID-19 will be considered as suspected case unless an official test proves otherwise.
