Why are some people getting sore throats from wearing a mask?
Something that is important to prevent coronavirus infection is to wear a mask. It is the best defense for now and stops the virus present in the air from entering into our respiratory tract. Few studies suggest that masks can reduce the risk of contagion by 50 percent. This is why people are asked to wear masks before stepping out of their houses.
However, wearing a mask seems simple. Many people are complaining about acne breakout, anxiety, foggy glasses due to prolonged use of masks and there is a new addition to the issues now: sore throat. This article will tell you why this is happening:
Sore throat and mask:
We all know that to maintain hygiene, we have to keep ourselves and our surroundings clean. But most of us miss washing our masks regularly. It is important as it reduces the risk of exposure to germs and bacteria.
And if you don’t wear clean masks, the bacteria, virus, dust, and other particles on the mask can lead to a sore throat. These particles stay on the mask when you use them without washing and this further causes irritation and pain. People with weak immunity and those allergic to dust or pollen particles are more prone to this reaction.
Also, when people wear a mask, they speak louder in order to be audible. This also puts unnecessary strain on the throat causing irritation and pain.
Ways to prevent it:
- Wash your mask after every use, let it dry in sunlight before wearing it
- Use two masks alternatively
- Avoid touching your mask and wash your hands properly before and after wearing it
- Wear cotton masks with good protection
- If you going out for some time then wear use and throw the mask
