Visit from Aunt Flo, being down or simply periods can be a messy and painful 5 days. But do you know that hygiene is a must during these days as the chances of catching bacterial infections in the highest. Here are few do’s and don’ts to maintain hygiene during menses
Sex: Avoid having sex with your partner during your periods as it can be unhygienic and messy. Plus many doctors say the risk of infections increases manifold.
Body cleanliness: Hygiene is of prime importance:
· Before your periods set in trim the hair in that area. Hair makes periods messier.
· During periods whenever you pee wash that area and gently dab some toilet paper to clear the menses blood.
· Use a virginal wash to clean the area.
· Some sanitary pads especially ones with can cause some irritation on the inner thighs. so keep your genitals clean to overcome the problem. If you get a rash try baby diaper rash cream (works amazingly well) or Itch guard. Do not let the irritation increase as it can lead to raw, dry and painful skin.
· A warm water bath also helps ease pain and make you feel fresh.
· Wash your hands before and after changing the sanitary pad.
· If you get stains on your panty or lowers change immediately.
· Use a night time pad for heavy bleeding days and night.
Diet: The right diet can make periods less painful.
Include lots of fiber and increase your fruit and vegetable intake.
Stay well hydrated, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water.
Have green vegetables to lessen cramps.
Many people also say that eating non-veg and beans (rajma) can increase period pain as they produce gas and this can make periods uncomfortable.
