For most of us the idea of romance starts with Mills and Boons. You bump into a tall, dark and handsome (ohh.. and super rich) guy, you loathe each other but end up falling in love and go off to happily-ever-after land.
While many of us happily and willingly can live in this world of novels, many do not believe in fairy-tale love. Here are 5 novels which will make you fall in love
1. Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell
Like many others you may have seen the movie and liked it but the love triangle between Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett is a million times more intense in the book. For ladies this is a must read as you will be able to relate with Scarlett and her nature, how she turns from sweet to selfish, sensitive to scheming and how she loses the man she loved, loves the man she hated, its an amazing ride.
2. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
I cried for Noah and Allie when I read this book. It is die hard romantic book, in fact I wrote the same letter to my then boyfriend (now husband) when we were about to part ways and things magically went better. It’s a tear-jerker romance which will leave you lusting for love!
3. Love story by Erich Segal
Time and again the Love Story has been voted as the best romantic novel. It’s a shamelessly sentimental love story ever written and the movies can do no justice to the book ever. Period! All romantic souls in the world can relate to the opening lines which read, “What can you say about a twenty-five year old girl who died? That she was beautiful and brilliant. That she loved Mozart and Bach. The Beatles. And me.”
4. 2 States by Chetan Bhagat
2 States is a simple love story. Probably the only Indian love story ever told with such poise. Yes, it doesn’t run deep but it’s the only Indian one I can relate to. The customs, traditions and the need to marry your love despite differences is shown well in this book. PS a movie is being made based on this novel, read it before watching it and see the difference.
5. Any Mills and Boons
No book can be a light read and still connect you to the romantic side as a Mills and Boon can. The graphic sex scenes, which made M & B’s notorious, are a great read too.
