When in doubt, ask the Internet! Google has combed through recent search trends to get an idea of what people are thinking this Valentine’s Day. (It’s on Friday, folks, in case it slipped your mind. Better get busy.)
According to Google Search Trends, in the past 30 days, more people were looking for gift ideas for the special men (husbands/boyfriends) in their life than for wives or girlfriends. The graph also shows that men begin googling gift ideas at a later date than do women: Is it guilt? Is it forgetfulness? It is last-minute, time-saving efficiency? Are girls just obsessed over finding the perfect gifts? To quote my husband: “When is Valentine’s Day again?”
As far as things to do on the special day goes, according to Google search trends, movie dates top the chart followed by romantic candlelight dinners, goingout for drinks, staying at home or spending time with your loved one over special Valentine’s Day recipes. All you have to do is type or even going out for aweekend getaway (luckily it’s on Friday this time!). All you have to do is type [valentine’s offers in your city] in your search bar.
While since Valentine’s Day is on a this time , many people are even looking to travel somewhere for the weekend. All you have to do is type [weekend getaways from the city of your choice] in your search bar
Following the Google search trends, the movie which seems the popular choice for lovers, strangely enough is the action thriller Gunday which has a poignant love story as well, followed by Hasee Toh Phasee, The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle. To find the best rom-com or blockbuster that’s currently making the rounds in theaters by typing in [movies] in your search bar. You’ll see movie times and cinema locations at a glance
Trends similarly show that Cosmopolitan remains the most searched cocktail, followed by Margarita, Screwdriver, Martini and Mojito.
Also the Search Trends show that “Valentine’s Day Quotes” tops the chart with regard to forms of communication on the day of love. It is searched more widely than “Valentine’s Day Cards”, “Valentine’s Day Poems”, “Valentine’s Day Sms”, “Valentine’s Day Cards” and “Valentine’s Day Songs” clearly demonstrating how amongst today’s tech savvy generation, sending a quote to your loved one over your messenger is the most preferred means of communication.
When it comes to gifts, flowers, chocolates and cakes are still the dominant choices, though watches, perfumes, wallets, tablets, clothes and bags were also searched by both sexes as possible gift options for their partners.
Finally, the most interesting trend to note is that it appears that many people plan to propose to their partner on Valentine’s Day as the question “How to Propose” saw a 100% spike close to 14th February showing that cynics may say what they want but the day of love is here to stay.
