Domestic violence doesn’t see fame or popularity! You can be anyone and still get beaten. This highlights the plight of millions of Indian women, who don’t have the media and often their own parents to help them out. So here are warning signals that we often ignore:
- Demands: This is usually the first step towards domestic violence. If your in-laws and husband start putting across demands at your maternal home. Be aware this could be the beginning of a poisonous future. Tell your parents to say no.
- Extreme anger towards you: If your husband behaves irrationally towards you, chances are he will try and beat you. Observe his nature: does he get angry and pacified immediately? At times he is unsure about his anger? These extreme mood swings could lead to physical violence.
- Forced sex: Sex without a woman’s permission is considered rape! Men often abuse women sexually before hitting them physically.
- Trying to accidentally hit you: Many women fail to notice this one. You are hit ‘accidentally’ but see if it was done purposefully.
- Stop believing and start noticing: Take off the rose tinted glasses and see the truth. Avoiding truth is easy but small incidents often lead up to that big one neither woman wants. Keep your parents or friends in loop if you think something untoward may happen.
Act for yourself!
