Dipa Karmakar created history by becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for Olympics ever. Dipa has finally booked India a ticket for the Rio Games after her a great performance at the final qualifying event.
Dipa, a 22-year-old, made a total score of 52.698 points in the Olympics qualifying event and making it to the artistic gymnastics in Rio Games to be held in August. Dipa is the first Indian woman and also the first Indian gymnast qualifying for this after a whooping 52 long years.
Since our independence, only 11 Indian male gymnasts have ever taken part in the Olympics.
