Sure, Indian elections have always been murky and women have never been on the forefront of the same. But in a bid to get limelight, SP Leaders have started anarchic and sexist comments about women. Samajwadi Party’s leaders are trying to outdo each others shocking anti-women statements.
After Mulayam Singh Yadav’s comment that death penalty for rape is unfair and he said men make mistakes and he will make sure no one is hanged if he comes to power, SP’s Maharashtra unit chief Abu Azmi has now said women, including rape victims, who have sex outside marriage should be hanged.
Incidentally he is the same man who made comments about rape victims and women in the past and his own son is married to Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia.
Azmi, told Mid-day that this was the best solution to rapes and said that any woman if, whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged.
We think , such sexist comments will cost them their seats when almost above 40 per cent voters are women. We also believe these it is sad that leaders who are the face of the masses have such thoughts.
