Since long I had been aiming to write a post for AAW, and finally I got the golden opportunity! And what better way to kick start a journey than by glorifying the successful common woman. Women who are determined to make it big in their lives–that too not because of any necessity but out of sheer passion!
So this woman’s day, the gorgeously successful faces behind All About Women decided to bring out such similar stories of women in India who along with maintaining familial lives strive to do something and make a name for themselves in this forever competitive world!
So today is all about Harmeet Kaur, a punjabi woman from Uttar Pradesh who is leading a happilymarried life in New Delhi! Being born and brought up in a small town in U.P. and being raised in an orthodox family, she did not get any time for socialising which indeed lead to her brewing creativity!
And as she says, “My parents, though strict never hindered my creative spree. In fact my father was the one who encouraged me to pursue my passion by getting me all sorts of painting and crafts work equipment.”
She has been painting since her early teenage years–from oil paintings, to embossing, knife painting, foil painting, canvas, acrylic and fabric paintings she has tried and mastered almost all genres of painting by now! After marriage, like many Indian women Harmeet lost her spark amidst the constraining joint family life. But after giving birth to her daughters, she again tried, and finally saw the potential paints and colours had! This is when she converted her passionate talent into a lucrative business opportunity. And this is when her own company “Satnam Creations” happened! Named after her deceased younger brother, Satnam Creations, now 16 years old, is the fruit of a motivational passion which made her follow her instinct. And never did she once let her work affect her familial responsibilities, and the way she manages both her family and work is worth appreciation!
So basically “Satnam Creations” which was once founded single-handedly by Mrs Harmeet Kaur is now a group of crafts specialists who take up projects, models (working and non working), charts, PPT’s, best out of waste and all sorts of arts and crafts work on order basis! What once started as a hobby, has now turned as a medium for income! What started in the year 2000 with the support of her husband and a few local clients has now extended its reach to almost all of Delhi and has had more than over 300 clients till date!
And as far as growth is concerned, with the success of Pearl Academy in Naraina Vihar Industrial Area, Satnam Creations (based in the residential area of Naraina) added one more gem in its collection and thereby started the branch of designing work specially curated for Pearl academy students!
The daughter of a businessman married to a businessman, indeed Harmeet has a streak of a budding entrepreneur! She still vividly remembers getting her first visiting cards printed, “I found an identity the day my first visiting card came in my hands which once held my paint brushes with ease.”
Starting a business does not necessarily need a hefty investment; all it takes is a motivated mind which knows what it wants and this is how Harmeet Kaur made the world she is now living in for herself. And this Women’s day, we salute all such woman who are striving to make a name for themselves in this forever evolving world that we stay in!
