Olympics events are making headline this entire month. It is the sports event that has everyone glued to the TV. Soon when the Olympics comes to an end, we will be waiting for another exciting game which is the Summer Paralympics Games. This will also be held in Rio De Janeiro where the Olympics are being hosted right now. The Paralympics Games will be held from 7th to 18 September 2016. This is the first time that a South American country will be hosting this game.
It is basically an international multi-sport event where participants with different disabilities compete. Participants show the world that they are no less than any other human being. They can do whatever a normal person can.
This encouraging event started in 1960 in Rome. This was the first time the world had heard about such an event. The International Paralympic Committee had organized it. Since then the event has been gaining popularity and is being held after every 4 years, just like the Olympics.
Before 1988, this game used to be held in different countries, but after people realized that it is an equally important game, the Olympics and Paralympics started using the same facilities. There are more than 23 sports played at this game with over 528 events. This shows that disabled people can play anything and everything till the time they believe in themselves and we all support them.
The official mascots of this year are called Tom and Vinicius. They represent courage and explain that “people are always growing and overcoming obstacles”. Participants have never let their disability come on the way of their dreams. No matter what they will always follow their passion.
