Miss Philippines was crowned Miss World 2013 on Saturday in a tightly guarded ceremony in Bali, Indonesia. The contest was plagued by protests from Muslim groups and there was a fear that they might disrupt the event.
U.S. born Megan Young, a 23-year-old is studying digital film, and accepted the crown from last year’s winner, Wenxia Yu of China. Megan Young has promised to be the best Miss World ever.
Thousands of members of a radical muslim group have been protesting against holding the pageant in Indonesia for a month. They believe that Miss World is pornography. The protests forced organizers to move the event from Jakarta to Nusa Dua, Bali.
The new Miss World will travel next year and represent the Miss World Organization. She will also help raise money for charitable causes. Marine Lorphelin from France came second.
Our Miss India World Navneet Kaur Dhillon did not make it to the top ten. However, she bagged the title of Miss Multimedia.
