The Supreme Court has increased the compensation from Rs 50, 000 to 3 lakh to acid attack victims.
The court has also banned sale of acid to minors and also added that acid can be sold to only those with a valid identity cards issued by the government. They have also directed the States and Union Territories to frame rules to regulate sale of acids and make acid attack a non-bailable offence.
All this began after Delhi-based acid attack victim Laxmi filed a petition for framing of a new law or amendment to the existing criminal laws for dealing with acid attack offence. Laxmi was attacked by three youths in 2005 near Tughlaq Road in New Delhi as she had refused to marry one of them.
But do you think compensation can lessen the pain of the girl? Instead of giving compensation govt should make strict laws for dealing with this crime.
