Modi government is in power and recently Modi announced that women are free to retain their maiden names in their passports now after the marriage. Though changing name after marriage was never an issue as many women retain their maiden name in passport. This is not the first time that Modi government has done something for the women of our country, here are some steps taken by the government for the benefit and security of the women.
Toilets for women: Under the Swacch Bharat Abhyaan, the government has promised to build more toilets by 2019.
How will it help women: Unlike men women can’t pee anywhere as they are more susceptible to infections when going out in the open and at times are victims of harassment because of the same.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: To tackle the decline in the Child Sex Ratio Modi government launched this campaign.
How will it help women: It will promote girl child, girl-child education and would discourage sex-selective elimination of female children in India.
Women’s Safety in trains: Ensuring the safety of the women passengers in the train government ensured that this year’s Rail Budget had provision for the installment of CCTV cameras.
How will it help women: It will help to reduce criminal activity.
Nirbhaya Fund: The Modi government announced that an amount of INR 1 Crore will exclusively be allocated for the Nirbhaya Fund.
How will it help: It will be used to implement better measures to ensure the safety of women.
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana: A small deposit scheme of the Government of India meant exclusively for a girl child launched as a part of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign.The account can be opened by the natural or legal guardian in the name of the girl from her birth till she turns 10.
How will it help: The scheme is meant to meet the education and marriage expenses of a girl child.
