It’s not only women who have to worry about their reproductive clock but men too. According to a new research by Reproductive Technology Laboratories in Los Angeles the quality of men’s sperm starts deteriorating after the age of 35.
The team analysed sperm samples from 5081 men aged between 16 and 72 and they found decline in sperm quality and quantity after age 35. The study also found that the proportion of sperm carrying an X chromosome also seems to increase after 35 meaning older dads are more likely to have daughters. Besides this they also found a decrease in the ratio of Y to X-bearing sperm once men hit 55, though it was not clear why.
For a healthier baby, plan one before your man hits 35 .
