Every Indian wedding has a mix of loud aunties, semi-bald uncles, fighting brothers, fashionable sisters, drinking friends, judging neighbours, etc. And at times this mix of people can lead to unpleasant situatiuons. Here at aaw we tell you how to spot those 6 awkward shaadi guests and how to deal with them:
The judging aunty: She will judge everyone or anyone, clothes, attitude, et all. Refrain from such people and tell them softly to loosen up and enjoy the funtion.
The i-know-every ritual oldie: The traditions and customs to be followed in Indian weddings are mind boggling. Some old people, will always claim to know the right (and usually the most complex) rituals. Tell them that it is a modern wedding and as long as everything is done with clear intentions, nothing will backfire.
The attention seeking cousin: We all have this lot, who don barely there blouses and midriff flaunting saris. They try to upstage you on your wedding (and most often are unmarried themselves!) The heady combination of blingy indian wear, alcohol and men at weddings brings out the best in them! Let your relatives deal with this one. But tell them specifically you did not enjoy the show!
The fault finders: ‘Khane mein namak kam hai‘ or ‘did you see what that xyz peson is wearing? How weird.’ Often there are people who will find fault in whatever is happening. They come to the function to enjoy and create gossiping fodder. Beware of such people and avoid saying anything (that might turn against you) in front of them.
The drunk uncles: Pot-bellied uncles who get drunk and high can be embarrassing. Such people are difficult to handle and make a joke of themselves with their weird antics and fun dances on Munni badnam hui. The best way is to open the bar really late, like after the ceremonies are over. Or by keeping a teetotaler function.
The irritating kid: A crying, screaming child is the last person you would like to disturb your function. The best way keep two household helps or waiters free for them (tip them well) to attend every need of the children. Keeping some toys handy might not be a bad option or getting one of those jumping jack’s installed outside the function venue.
