When we met the graceful Anita Donge at the opulent Vogue Wedding how last week, we were humbled. For she thinks about her brides more than what we as brides thought about ourselves! Fashion and practicality go hand in hand in her signature bespoke bridal lenghas and that is why Anita Dongre is a hit with every Indian bride. So here are the excerpts from our quick tête-à-tête:
What is the new Anita Dongre bridal collection all about?
Well the new Anita Dongre collection is young, its colourful, its light and still bright. It is much like the brides of today. We have used rich hues like orange, pinks and my favourite red.
Which is that one secret that all brides love Anita Dongre?
I think its because I like to keep it young and still comfortable. One to-be bride came over here yesterday and all her mother wanted was for her to wear red and the daughter was steadfastly saying no to wear reds and she fell in love with a red lengha here! There are reds, reds and more reds. Its about the right colour and how you feel in an outfit.
How open are you to redesigning bridal wear to transform into another outfit post wedding?
I love it when a bride decides to reuse her wedding lengha later, in fact many of them come back to get their clothing restyled, like a new choli or a long kurta upon the lengha. The bride nowadays are sure about their style and often end up looking for options they can refurbish and reuse. However the bridal lengha still holds that sentimental value.
Which is that one Bollywood actress you would love to dress up?
I can’t name any. For me every bride is a star in her own right and every girl who walks in through the door is equally important.
