Recently, team AAW attended a sundowner at ‘Ek Bar’ where there were discussions about wedding gifts over cocktails. The ambiance was perfect for a fall evening, dark inside with a big transparent window. In cocktails, ‘EK Bar’ presented us the Indian styled drinks. One which I liked most was Queen Victoria, it was made of mango-ginger, scotch and lime juice. Indeed it made my evening.

The CEO of For My Shaadi, Sudha Maheshwari grabbed attention as she talked about Wedding gift registry, yes the most popular gifting style of west is now going to hit Indian weddings. She recalled the time when she got married, “I remembered just two gifts at my wedding which I got after requesting personally to my friends.” This story of Sudha sounds quite familiar to urban modern married women reading this right? Yes, there took birth the idea of a first ever wedding registry in India.
She described the present idea of Indian weddings where a couple is going to kick start another phase of their life, and they are poured hundreds of paintings, photo-frames, vases which is not going to match house of their dreams or their lifestyle, ultimately all such items shall be passed on to the next wedding and this cycle will never end.
In her newly created e-commerce platform you and your soon-to-be better half pick gifts by your own and create a wish list for your guests! I guess this is more productive and wastage free method of gifting. Yes, you’ll get every gift which your ACTUALLY want. Cool isn’t it?
In a chit chat session with the co-founder Vanita I asked what if your dil maange more and it’s out of budget for your guests? She clarified, Simply chip-in. Remember car pooling during odd-even days? Chip-in is gift pooling where your guests or group of friends can together present you a lavish gift.
The brands they offer are exquisite and showcased beautifully there. The gifts are bifurcated into 3 categories: personal items under ‘for us’ category which is further categorized as clothing, accessories, beauty & grooming and personal electronics. 2nd is ‘For our home’which includes furniture, décor and electronics. And 3rd one is ‘For our 1st year’ which is my favorite as it has everything which couples need in their first wedding anniversary. . . . Like luxury holidays, Spa, Salons, Fitness and lot more. Plus they tied up with premium brands like Ananda in Himalayas, Atelier Mon, Beyond by Sula, Elvy Lifestyle, Indigo, Pashma, L’occitane Spa’s, The furniture republic, Truefitt and hill.
Displaying each method clearly through a presentation, Sudha said that you can choose the date, more likely of after hustle and bustle of marriage to get your gift delivered. Add a cute thank you note for your guests. For my shaadi provides you a six week window for this.
