Ratan Naval Tata, Chairman Emeritus Tata Sons dies at 86

Ratan Naval Tata takes his final breath on Wednesday at age 86; Tata Group announces the funeral dates and Timing 

India lost one of its most humble, business tycoon Ratan Naval Tata at 86 on Wednesday. Tata had been in a hospital in Mumbai since Monday, undergoing intensive care. Just a day before, he had reassured everyone on social media that his health issues were routine due to his age.

The news was confirmed by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons who expressed his deep sadness, saying, “We are heartbroken to say goodbye to Mr. Ratan Tata. His leadership and contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also our country.”

Ratan Tata became the head of the Tata Group in 1991, stepping into the role at a critical time when India was opening its economy to the world. He led the group for over 20 years, transforming it into a global powerhouse. Under his leadership, Tata companies like Tata Motors and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) grew into global brands. One of his most famous projects was launching the Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car, which aimed to make cars affordable for everyday people.

Even after stepping down in 2012, Tata continued to guide the group as Chairman Emeritus, always staying connected to the company’s goals and values.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Ratan Tata, calling him “a visionary leader” and an “extraordinary human being.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi praised Tata for his kindness and dedication to improving society, which made him loved by many. 

In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Shantanu Naidu, a close aide to Ratan Tata, chose to reflect not on Tata’s immense business legacy but on the deep bond of friendship they shared. 

“The hole this friendship has left in me is one I will spend the rest of my life trying to fill. Grief, as they say, is the price we pay for love. Goodbye, my dear lighthouse,” wrote the 30-year-old General Manager at the Office of Ratan Tata. 

Naidu also shared a poignant throwback photo of the two together, a touching tribute to the man who was more than just a mentor—he was a guiding light in his life.

Ratan Tata Funeral Date & Timing 

The funeral of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata is set to take place on Thursday with his mortal remains available for public viewing at 10:30 am at the NCPA Lawns, Nariman Point, Mumbai for the public to pay their final respects. According to a statement from Tata Trust, the final journey will commence at 4 pm, leading to the Prayer Hall at the Worli Crematorium on Dr. E Moses Road for the final rites. Visitors are requested to enter the NCPA Lawns through Gate 3 and exit through Gate 2, with no parking available.
