The beautiful Arunachal Pradesh has been put on the international tourism map after being adjudged as the second runners-up of Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Award. Known as the Last Shangri La on earth it was declared under ‘Emerging Destinations in India’ category.
A panel of experts from the industry shortlisted 42 categories which were put to vote by readers of the Lonely Planet Magazine from across the world. It was awarded the best state for ‘Campaign Clean India’ and also won a special prize for the most innovative use of information technology.
In 2012 too Arunachal was adjudged the 4th best region by Lonely Planet and was also voted the ‘Favourite Upcoming Destination’ by Outlook Traveller readers.
At India’s first three-day International Tourism Mart in Guwahati in January, the state’s unique culture, cuisines, art and handicrafts was appreciated by 100 international delegates from three SAARC and 10 ASEAN countries.
